School House

Remember the song “School Days, School Days, Dear Old Golden Rule Days?” Here’s the one room schoolhouse complete with dunce, school marm, and a dozen restless pupils. It commemorates Cheyenne’s first school building, which was dedicated on January 5, 1869, when the temperature was 23 degrees below zero. The building was 20’x40’. One hundred students reported the first day. Two teachers instructed all the classes.
