Dr. Marcus Whitman and his wife, Narcissa

The occupants of the first carriages depict Dr. Marcus Whitman and his wife, Narcissa, who were missionaries in 1836. They traveled along the Oregon Trail stopping at Independence Rock to preach the first Protestant sermon on the plains.
